Champions Crowned Coast to Coast: A State Championship Roundup

May 12, 2026

The 2026 high school rugby season delivered another weekend of memorable finals, with state championships contested from Northern California to Virginia. Across seven states, programs both established and emerging hoisted trophies in front of family, friends, and the broader rugby community. Below is a snapshot of who came out on top in each SYRO.

Northern California

NorCal once again proved its depth across competitive tiers. On the boys' side, SFGG captured the Premier title, Carmichael claimed D1 Gold, and Chico took home D1 Silver.

The girls' results showed similar parity: SacAIR Amazons won Premier honors, Harlequins took D1 Gold, and Chico mirrored the boys' D1 Silver triumph to give the program a banner weekend.

Southern California

SoCal's championship picture featured both repeat contenders and breakthrough sides. The girls' competition belonged to Belmont Shore, which won both the GU18 and GU15 finals.

SD Mustangs swept the boys' BU18 brackets, winning both the Premier and Gold divisions. South OC Raptors took Premier BU16, while Back Bay claimed the Gold BU16 crown.

Colorado

Colorado's tiered system produced champions across multiple age and skill brackets. In the girls' competition, Lumberjackies/Monarch side finished first, with Summit second and GRV Blue third.

The boys' Tier 1 final went to Valor (A), followed by Regis Jesuit (A) and East (A). PAC topped the Tier 2 podium ahead of Arvada and Hammers, and Tier 3 saw East (B) win it all, with Monarch (B) second and Valor (B) third — a strong reflection of program depth across Colorado clubs.

Idaho

It was a great day of competition! Many games came down to the final play for the result. The Boys Tier 1 game was especially exciting. Rocky Mountain took with win over last year’s champion Owyhee by 3 points. Final score of 26-29. Owyhee had the last possession but failed to capitalize on it by the final whistle.

A couple first time qualifiers for the state championships were crowned as well: Eagle U10 was a new program this year, Fort Boise boys and Emmett girls have been working hard for the last couple seasons and finally got the chance to reap the rewards. It’s great to see these newer programs succeed like they did on Saturday.

U10: Timberline Wolves vs Eagle Mustangs. Mustangs win

U12: Timberline Wolves vs Owyhee Storm. Storm win

U14 G: Eagle Mustangs vs Owyhee Storm. Storm win

U14 B: Timberline Wolves vs Rocky Mtn Grizzlies. Wolves win

HS Boys JV: Rocky Mtn Grizzlies vs Rigby Royals. Royals win

HS Boys Tier 2: Fort Boise vs Rigby Royals. Boise win

HS Boys Tier 1: Owyhee Storm vs Rocky Mtn Grizzlies. Grizzlies win

HS Girls Tier 1: Rocky Mtn Grizzlies vs Eagle Mustangs. Mustangs win

Missouri

The Missouri high school boys' final went to SLUH, who defeated St. Louis 12-5 in a tight defensive battle that came down to execution in the final third.

North Carolina

North Carolina's finals weekend produced several dominant runs. The Tigers swept the older boys' divisions, winning both U19A (over Raleigh) and U19B (over Cardinals Gold). Clayton upended the Tigers in the U16 final, while Southern Pines was the story of the youth brackets, claiming the U14 Boys title over Cardinals, the U12 coed title over Clayton, and the U10 coed title over Redhawks.

New Mexico

The state is only going from strength to strength and the championships were a testament to that.

U18 Girls Division: La Cueva defeated Los Alamos.

U18 Boys Division: La Cueva defeated Los Alamos 26-13.

U16 Boys Division: Abq Eagles defeated St Pius 35-0

U14: Abq Eagles defeated St Pius 24-21

Virginia

Virginia's finals weekend featured decisive performances across the age brackets. Fort Hunt Warriors stamped their authority on the U18 D1 final with a 62-14 win over Richmond, and Fort Hunt added the U16 title with a tighter 19-14 victory over Loudoun. Bethesda took the U18 D2 crown 50-27 over Albemarle. Vienna captured both the U14 final, defeating Richmond 35-17, and the U12 final, downing Loudoun 32-12.

Utah

Utah continued to showcase one of the most expansive youth rugby pipelines in the country, crowning champions across school and club competitions at nearly every age group. On the boys' side, Herriman won Boys HS Tier 1 and Boys 9/10 School Tier 1, Richfield took Boys HS Tier 2, Caveman captured both Boys HS Club Tier 1 and BU14 Tier 1, and Temana won Boys HS Club Tier 2. Other boys' titles went to Olympus (Boys 9/10 Tier 2), MT View/Springville (BU14 Tier 2), Westlake Drua (BU12 Tier 1), and Rhinos, who took both the BU12 Tier 2 Challenger Cup and the Boys 9/10 Club championship.

The girls' competitions saw the Majestics shine, winning both Girls HS Tier 1 and Girls U14 Tier 1. Nova claimed Girls HS Tier 2, and Provo Steelers took Girls U14 Tier 2.

Looking Ahead

With state results continuing to come in from additional regions over the course of the month, the national picture is taking shape ahead of the summer. Congratulations to every program, coach, parent, and player who contributed to a championship-caliber season.
