USA U18 Rugby Heads to South America for International Tour
The USA Men's U18 Rugby team embarks on its first international experience this July! Shifting from past Netherlands tours, this year's 28-player squad will travel to Uruguay for a multi-match festival, facing off against top competition. Head Coach Dominic Wearing returns to lead the team in South America.
Facing the Challenge:
The tour kicks off on July 6th in Montevideo with a doubleheader against Uruguay and Chile's U18 teams. This will be followed by two matches against the Buenos Aires Academy. This challenging schedule will expose young American players to the dynamics of high-level international rugby.
First Result: The USA Men's U18 squad lost their opening match to Chile, 34-7, and then fielded a new 15 in a 20-10 loss to Uruguay.
"The longer-term plan is not to necessarily win on this tour—you always train and play to win but that’s not the plan. We’re trying to prepare them to win in 2031 and to find the guys who are going to be those 2031 players," said USA Rugby Head of Men’s High-Performance Pathways Brendan Keane.
